Redwood Pediatric Dentistry of Oakland offers Montclair parents specialized dental care with clear guidance at every stage of childhood. Led by board-certified pediatric dentist Dr. Niekia Franklin, our Redwood Road practice provides preventive, restorative, emergency, sedation, and special needs dentistry for infants, children, and teens. Families looking for a pediatric dentist near Montclair can explore treatment options, learn what to expect, and plan visits around their child’s individual needs.
Finding the right pediatric dentist means understanding more than the available treatments. At Redwood Pediatric Dentistry, Montclair families can review Dr. Franklin’s qualifications, explore the ways we support children during appointments, and learn about practical arrangements before visiting our Oakland office.
Dr. Franklin is board-certified in pediatric dentistry, with advanced specialty training and over a decade of experience. Families can review her credentials and approach before scheduling.
Our office offers warm blankets, headphones, and Disney+ during exams. These options give children additional ways to feel comfortable while receiving dental care.
Our published hours include Saturday mornings. Parents managing school routines around Montclair Elementary or Thornhill Elementary can contact us to confirm available appointment times.
Some children benefit from sensory accommodations, gradual introductions, or additional support during treatment. We discuss individual needs with caregivers and plan appropriate adjustments.
Redwood Pediatric Dentistry provides specialized dental services for infants, children, and teenagers at our Oakland office. From monitoring newly emerging teeth to treating dental injuries or decay, we consider each child’s development and oral health needs. Parents receive clear explanations before making decisions about recommended treatment.
During preventive visits, we monitor tooth eruption, examine gums, and assess cavity risk. Cleanings, fluoride, sealants, and digital X-rays are recommended when appropriate. Parents leave with practical guidance for brushing and flossing as their child moves from baby teeth to permanent teeth.
When a baby tooth needs repair, we may recommend a filling or crown depending on the damage. For certain cavities, less invasive options may be suitable. Dr. Franklin explains what each treatment involves, including when pulp therapy is needed for the tissue inside a tooth.
Toothaches, facial swelling, and dental injuries need different responses. Our team assesses urgent dental concerns and explains the next steps. If your child has severe facial trauma, breathing difficulties, or uncontrolled bleeding, seek emergency medical attention rather than delaying care for a dental appointment.
For some children, nitrous oxide (laughing gas) can ease anxiety while they remain responsive. Intravenous (IV) sedation may be considered for more involved care. The team reviews medical history and treatment needs before deciding whether a sedation approach is appropriate.
We plan visits around communication preferences, medical conditions, and sensory needs. Accommodations may include adjusted lighting, sunglasses, ear protection, or a slower pace. Caregivers can share what has helped their child in previous healthcare visits so the team can plan more thoughtfully.
Dr. Niekia Franklin founded Redwood Pediatric Dentistry after earning her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Baylor College of Dentistry, where she graduated in the top three percent of her class. She later completed pediatric dentistry training at Indiana University, receiving a Master of Science in Dentistry. She is board certified by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.
With more than a decade of experience, Dr. Franklin encourages parents to ask questions and understand the reasons behind dental recommendations. Her work includes prevention, conservative treatment, and care for children with additional healthcare needs. Montclair parents can learn about her training and philosophy before choosing an appointment at Redwood’s Oakland office on Redwood Road.

This is hands down the best pediatric dentistry in the entire Bay Area. From the moment you walk in, the reception staff is incredibly kind and welcoming. That warmth continues with the dental assistants and Dr. Franklin herself. My children are always so well cared for, but today’s visit truly stood out. When we discovered my young son had cavities, Dr. Franklin immediately sensed our worry. Before even discussing the treatment, she took the time to console my husband and me, reassuring us that this happens often and isn't a reflection of our parenting. Her empathy is unmatched. We are so grateful to have found this practice and cannot recommend them highly enough. If you want the best for your children, look no further. Dr. Franklin + Staff: I wish you all nothing but health, wealth, and success! You guys are WONDERFUL! Thank you, thank you, thank you!![]()

We love Dr. Franklin and her whole staff. My three boys are all patients at Redwood Pediatric Dentistry and I appreciate their suggestions for dental health and how they really connect with my kids. The lots of personal touches like their names on the door, my little one loves the toys and my older kids appreciate that the staff are all very friendly and fun to talk to. They also make scheduling and insurance billing very easy. Highly recommend!![]()

I started taking my now three-year-old here when she first turned one. Dr. Franklin and the team makes the experience so seamless and as fun as comforting for the kiddos, as well, a dentist trip can be :). We’re very grateful to have found this place and we’re excited that our kiddos will be here for a very long time.![]()

My family and I are so happy we came across Dr. Franklin’s office for my 6 yr old son. All the staff are so friendly and welcoming. You feel like family when you go and I love that not only is the space specifically curated for kids but all the staff have a talent for working with kids. They know exactly what to do to help the kids feel at ease. When my son had a filling, he was nervous going in but once he got on the chair Dr. Franklin explained everything to him step by step and when we was done he said it wasn’t so bad :) I also love that Dr. Franklin gives you a lot options when your child needs treatment. She is very health conscious and puts that at the forefront of her practice. I wish I had a child dentist like this when I grew up. I would always look forward to going. If you’re looking for a dentist for your child, I highly recommend Dr. Franklin!![]()
