Care for Developing Teeth

Dr. Franklin evaluates baby and permanent teeth differently, considering their development and condition. Parents receive clear explanations about when monitoring, treatment, or follow-up care may be appropriate.

Support for Different Needs

Children with dental anxiety, sensory sensitivities, or medical conditions may need extra preparation. We offer personalized visit adjustments and discuss sedation options when clinically appropriate.

Help With Dental Emergencies

When your child develops tooth pain, swelling, or a dental injury, our team can provide guidance over the phone and explain appropriate next steps before you travel.

Clear Insurance & Payment Guidance

Our team helps verify dental benefits and explain potential out-of-pocket costs before appointments. Families without insurance can also explore our Little Smiles membership plan and available payment options.

Pediatric Dental Services We Offer For San Leandro Families

Children’s dental needs change as their teeth develop. Redwood Pediatric Dentistry offers preventive treatments, restorative care, emergency evaluations, and specialized services based on each child’s oral health and medical history. Our team explains treatment recommendations so parents understand the options available.

During exams, we track tooth eruption and check for decay between teeth. Fluoride, sealants, and digital X-rays are recommended according to your child’s risk and development. Parents also receive practical brushing and flossing guidance for the stage their child is in.

Baby teeth sometimes need more than a filling. Our options include tooth-colored restorations, stainless steel or zirconia crowns, Hall crowns for selected molars, and pulp therapy when the tooth’s inner tissue is affected. Dr. Franklin explains what fits the tooth’s condition.

If your child develops swelling, a severe toothache, or a broken tooth, call before heading from San Leandro. We assess how urgently they need care and examine injuries to baby and permanent teeth, which may need different treatment.

Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) may ease anxiety while a child remains awake and responsive. Intravenous (IV) sedation is another option for certain procedures. Suitability depends on your child’s health, treatment needs, and an individual assessment—not age alone.

Before treatment, we ask about your child’s medical needs, communication preferences, and sensory triggers. Lighting adjustments, ear protection, and a slower introduction may help with the visit. We work with caregivers to decide which accommodations are appropriate.

This is hands down the best pediatric dentistry in the entire Bay Area. From the moment you walk in, the reception staff is incredibly kind and welcoming. That warmth continues with the dental assistants and Dr. Franklin herself. My children are always so well cared for, but today’s visit truly stood out. When we discovered my young son had cavities, Dr. Franklin immediately sensed our worry. Before even discussing the treatment, she took the time to console my husband and me, reassuring us that this happens often and isn't a reflection of our parenting. Her empathy is unmatched. We are so grateful to have found this practice and cannot recommend them highly enough. If you want the best for your children, look no further. Dr. Franklin + Staff: I wish you all nothing but health, wealth, and success! You guys are WONDERFUL! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

We love Dr. Franklin and her whole staff. My three boys are all patients at Redwood Pediatric Dentistry and I appreciate their suggestions for dental health and how they really connect with my kids. The lots of personal touches like their names on the door, my little one loves the toys and my older kids appreciate that the staff are all very friendly and fun to talk to. They also make scheduling and insurance billing very easy. Highly recommend!

I started taking my now three-year-old here when she first turned one. Dr. Franklin and the team makes the experience so seamless and as fun as comforting for the kiddos, as well, a dentist trip can be :). We’re very grateful to have found this place and we’re excited that our kiddos will be here for a very long time.

My family and I are so happy we came across Dr. Franklin’s office for my 6 yr old son. All the staff are so friendly and welcoming. You feel like family when you go and I love that not only is the space specifically curated for kids but all the staff have a talent for working with kids. They know exactly what to do to help the kids feel at ease. When my son had a filling, he was nervous going in but once he got on the chair Dr. Franklin explained everything to him step by step and when we was done he said it wasn’t so bad :) I also love that Dr. Franklin gives you a lot options when your child needs treatment. She is very health conscious and puts that at the forefront of her practice. I wish I had a child dentist like this when I grew up. I would always look forward to going. If you’re looking for a dentist for your child, I highly recommend Dr. Franklin!

Common Questions From San Leandro Parents

When should my child first visit a pediatric dentist?

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends scheduling your child’s first dental visit when the first tooth appears or by their first birthday. These early appointments help monitor tooth development, assess cavity risk, and introduce parents to appropriate brushing and feeding habits. Children who are older and haven’t visited a dentist should also schedule an initial evaluation.

Not every cavity requires the same treatment, but baby teeth serve important roles in chewing, speech, and maintaining space for permanent teeth. Depending on the extent of decay, treatment may involve fluoride-based options, fillings, or crowns. Dr. Franklin evaluates the affected tooth and explains whether monitoring or treatment is appropriate.

If a permanent tooth is knocked out, hold it by the crown, not the root. If dirty, gently rinse it with milk or saline without scrubbing. If you’re confident it is a permanent tooth, gently reinsert it if possible. Otherwise, keep it moist in milk or a tooth-preservation solution and seek emergency dental care immediately. Never reinsert a knocked-out baby tooth.
